Emerging Technologies are Making our Lives Cyber Interesting

Even though driving has become one of the essentials of modern life we all have to admit that it is pretty time consuming and most of the drivers out there aren’t that good at it. Statistics show a terrifying data saying that around 1.2m people are killed every year on roads worldwide.

Things don’t have to be so dark, though. Soon, there will be something called “driver less cars” which are a pretty safe option for both drivers and participants in traffic on foot. Unlike us regular drivers, driver less cars will not be able to speed , obtain reckless chances, drive drunk and/or race their mates away from traffic lights. Also, they will never send a text message at the wheel, doze off and lose concentration, get competitive, angry or frustrated. To make the story short they’ll be a lot, lot safer than we are.

Parking

Oh, how we all hate trying to find a parking spot in the middle of the day or whenever! It’s by far one of the most stressful things for a driver. But, with a driver less car this problem will easily be dealt with – our car will handle it. How? Well, the moment you drive to your desired destination, all you’ll have to do is hop out of the car and leave finding a parking spot to your car. Later, when you wish to go back into a car, you’ll just summon it with your smartphone. Amazing, right! You can forget about dented bumpers and waiting for a parking spot for hours. Plus, this will free up urban road space for wider pavements and cycle lanes.

Free time

It is safe to say that most of our adult lives are spent commuting – whether it’s in a train, car or whichever other type of transport. All that time wasted! We are not going to include the enjoyable travel time while going away for a road trip, or a wonderful country ride on sunny and windy nights but we are talking about those must-do situations that cause nothing but stress. It would be great if all the time you spend in a car driving would be put into much better use like reading a book, doing some work, talking with family, watching a film. Well, now it’s possible! A driver less car offers it.

Congestion

Traffic jam somehow always manages to get in your way when you try to get someplace in time. Good think about driverless cars is that they can take a trip in convoys, inches apart. Further, this means that there will be no needless dabs of the brake pedal to filter backwards through traffic.

Highways

The option of driverless cars is also great because it does wonders for the environment. That is, once the problem of congestion is solved, there will be no further need for digging up the country’s green spaces to create larger roads.

School Run

Maybe the best thing of all is that the emerging of driverless cars will mean that anyone will be able to drive them – no licence will be needed and there won’t be driving tests. Children can drive themselves to basketball practice, ballet or school.

Jobs

Unfortunately, driverless cars mean that there will be job losses on an epic scale as professions like taxi driver, private chauffeur, pizza delivery driver and lorry driver and similar will become abundant. But they could also create jobs: software developers, hi-tech mechanics and people to build new infrastructure.

Tires

Another development on the car front has been made and that’s a new conceptual tire that can communicate with a car’s onboard computer. This is a so called intelligent tire concept and it’s very likely we all are going to love it. The inside of the tire is embedded with a battery-less microchip attached to it and it sends information on tire temperature, pressure and the tire identification details to the vehicle’s computer. In order to deliver an improved driving performance, using the given information, the car’s central computer system will be able to refine the vehicle’s lateral and longitudinal control algorithms.

Intelligent tires offer a huge amount of options for safe driving as their improvements include a enhanced cornering response, optimized stability control systems, reduced stopping distance when the ABS kicks in and improved yaw stability and– all based on data from the tire.

Like it or not, the future we are to live in seems like a pretty cyberplace and we all will just have to work with it.
